Event Management and the Cloud

Cloud computing is the delivery of shared resources, software and information over the Internet. It is a relatively new delivery model for IT services and provides users with a completely different way to use and manage their IT software and platforms. A common way to use cloud computing is to subscribe, or pay a monthly fee to use a particular software solution. Instead of the software being installed on a user's computer directly, the user accesses the software remotely, via their web browser.

Some of the generic benefits of cloud computing include:

Diaster Management

Cost: Cost can be greatly reduced since capital expenditure is converted to operational expenditure, lowering the barriers to entry Local Independence: Users can access systems using a web browser, regardless of their location or device they are using Scalability and Peak Load Capacity: Using software on the cloud means that companies can manage peaks in demand with ease Reliability: Reliability is improved making is a safer option with regards to disaster recovery Maintenance: This is easier on cloud computing since the software is not installed on the user's computer; meaning that support and upgrades are managed and taken on by the provider themselves.

Event Management and the Cloud

Event managers are able to take advantage of cloud computing and use it to improve efficiency and reduce the cost of their events.

Diaster Management

Two of the most popular cloud software solutions for event managers are:

Google Docs

Google Docs is a fantastic example of cloud computing. Traditionally, working off a master document on a conventional server or network could cause many issues, such as:

Not knowing if you're working on the most recent version Only one person at a time being able to gain access Only those working on the server/network would be able to access the document Issues with duplication

However, hosting documents on the cloud means that key members of the event team (and external partners and suppliers) can access documents at any time from any place (Internet connection pending). There's no limit to the number of people who can view the document at any time, updates are made in real time, and there are no issues with document duplication. Additionally, hosting documents on the cloud is also safer, since they are not relying on the security of the network or server they would normally be kept on.

Event Management Software

Event software is starting to play a key role in the organisation and management of events. Comprehensive event management software includes features such as:

Website integration: event software should seamlessly integrate with your existing website without the need to re-design or re-brand

Online Registration: event management software should allow event managers to create a fully customisable online booking form capturing the most relevant information from your delegates

Event Communication: Clear and targeted communication to your delegate audience is crucial, the event system should include integrated event communication tools such as email marketing, invitation and surveys

Event Badges: One of the most time consuming jobs for an event manager is production of delegate badges. Event software enables personalised badges to be created pre or during the event simply and quickly

Event Resource Management: Simply manage and allocate all resources through a comprehensive calendar feature, providing total control of all aspects of the event management process

Event Financials: Technology enables event managers to offer a variety of options for delegates to securely pay online with confidence, providing ease of use via automation

Event Reporting: Determining the true ROI from events can be determined and managed through a powerful reporting and analysis suite

Event Scheduler: Manage and schedule multi-faceted one to one meetings for your delegates and suppliers simply and efficiently

Venue Management Software: Flexible venue planning and scheduling tools that manages the event facility no matter what type of events are being hosted

Document Management: An easy way to publish and manage speaker abstracts and biographies

Event software can help event managers create more effective, successful events. Research has shown that during the current economic downfall, many event companies have begun to take advantage of the benefits of automation and event technology to help stay afloat. Increasing efficiency and reducing the cost of hosting events is helping to increase the return on investment provided to both the event company and to the delegates attending.

A cloud based event management solution offers the opportunity for event managers to manage event teams and service delegate and booker requests, from any location at any time. At the same time, event promotions, bookings, cancellations and updates can also be undertaken using the internet as the key delivery vehicle.

From the event managers point of view, event management software on the cloud will take care of high volumes of outbound transaction (email newsletters, invitations, etc) and inbound transactions (event bookings, modifications, cancellations, etc), saving time and money, whilst giving delegates a smoother and improved experience.

From a management point of view, a cloud based event management solution provides the mechanism to be in real time control of all of events activities - event managers are able to get an accurate view of the state of active events, what stage particular event marketing campaigns are at and the feedback being received on your on-going events programme. Third party partners - trainers, speakers, sponsors, caterers, venue managers, etc - can also be granted easy access, in a secure fashion, to the event related details that they need access to and can respond to any event changes that affect them, again on a real time basis.

Having a cloud based event management solution in place opens up significant opportunities for integrating the solution with complimentary applications and solutions both internally and externally. For example:

Internally

Finance applications Customer and contact management solutions

Externally

Partner websites Third party online payment providers Social networking environments

With a cloud based event management solution, the management of events becomes wholly a business issue with the IT issues being handled by the cloud application provider. The availability of the events management solution, the backing up and securing of data, as well as the scalability of the solution in times of peak activities are all handled, transparently, by the cloud application provider.

Prepare For Disaster - End of the World 2012 - What to Do in an Earthquake

Prepare For Disaster - End of the World 2012 - What to Do in an Earthquake

If you're really serious about preparing for the end of the world 2012, then better listen up: They say that preparation is already halfway towards success. If today was December 21, 2012, and meteors started falling from the sky, can you confidently say that you're at least half-prepared? Do you have the proper knowledge and information to deal with different disasters and calamities? If you are not, then this how-to guide will give you tips on how to keep yourself alive when you encounter these sorts of catastrophes:

What To Do During An Earthquake

Japan Earthquakes

If outdoors, stay right where you are and never go indoors, however moving away from buildings, streetlights, and utility wires. Most earthquake-related deaths result from collapsing walls, shards of glasses, and falling objects, so stay out in the open. If, unfortunately, you were inside a building or your house at the moment of the end of the world 2012, your safest choice is to drop to the ground and to take cover under a sturdy table, still staying away from walls and falling objects.

What To Do During A Tsunami

Prevention is better than cure here, so better turn on the radio or TV to learn if there is a tsunami warning or if there is an earthquake and you are residing near a coastal area. If you learn that a tsunami is coming, move inland, preferably to higher ground, and stay there. Stay away from the beach and don't ever go down there just to watch a tsunami land in. It's the last thing you will ever get to watch. Then again we're talking about the end of the world 2012 here, so it really wouldn't matter if you're that reckless.

What To Do During A Volcanic Eruption

If December 21, 2012 is really terribly close to the current date, and you are residing in an area near volcanic activity, then your best option is to flee from that area before December 21, 2012. This end of the world 2012 apocalypse hands us the benefit of a chance to prepare for it, although to what extent this will be useful, that we cannot be sure. Regardless, as soon as you see potential elements for catastrophe, such as a volcano, evacuate. Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants, and use a dusk mask. When escaping a volcanic eruption, avoid river valleys and low-lying areas because lava can easily flow through these passages. Lastly, be aware of mudflows, because they can move faster than you can walk or run and it will surely do harm to you.

What To Do During A War, An Asteroid Collision, A Solar Flare Event or Nuclear Warfare

Well, the first thing you really have to do here is pray that the place of impact of these events isn't at your current location, because if you encounter any of this at point-blank, there is very little chance of survival. If, for example, a collision with an asteroid occurred (but thankfully not near your home), the best thing to do is seek for government protection. They are the only ones who can have a feasible solution for these sorts of disasters. Some privately-funded companies have also created underground bunkers that claim to have resistive abilities with these sorts of catastrophes, so you can also check that out.

Surely these tips are not the whole walk around the park... There are still other guidelines out there for other specific disasters such as hurricanes, storms, and the like. You can find other tips on survival through eBooks and the internet.

A serious word of precaution: Don't ever think that all of this will happen one by one, or it is just a single catastrophic event. The Doomsday prophecies made it clear that every method of destruction will occur on December 21, 2012, mercilessly, simultaneously. The ground will tremble, the core of the earth will spew out fire, the waters will rage with floods TOGETHER. So surely, these tips do not cover even half of what you should do for survival. We can only pray that the end of the world 2012 isn't going to come, but that's hoping for the best. The end of the world 2012 is the worst case that we're gonna have to deal with once it becomes true and real.

Save a Life Through German Shepherd Rescue

German Shepherd rescue organizations are an important alternative to the dog pound for owners of purebred German Shepherd dogs who, for whatever reason, must give up their dogs. They may have gotten their German Shepherds with good intentions, but life brings changes, and many purebred German Shepherd dogs end up homeless because of deaths, marriages, moves, or children. Since the German Shepherd is such a great watchdog, many dogs are acquired to guard property. When the property changes hands, the watchdog is no longer needed, and instead of easing the dog in to retirement as a house pet, some owners give their dogs away.

A German Shepherd dog owner who can't find a new home for a German Shepherd can turn the dog over to a German Shepherd rescue organization. However, the owners should be certain they are being forced to give up their dog before they surrender their dog to a German Shepherd rescue organization. Luckily for the dogs, German Shepherd rescue organizations find homes for most of these unwanted dogs.

Rescue

The German Shepherd is a confident breed whose friendship must be earned. Because an adult dog weighs 55 to 65 lbs, an out-of-control German Shepherd can be harmful to itself and its human companions. German Shepherd puppy training should begin at eight to ten weeks of age. However, owners of rescue dogs often know little or nothing about the training their dogs have received in the past.

Save a Life Through German Shepherd Rescue

German Shepherd rescue dog owners should take obedience training classes with their dogs. These classes are an enjoyable experience for owner and dog alike, and they will either provide review for a dog who received training earlier in life or much-needed structure for a German Shepherd who has never had formal training. German Shepherds crave leadership, and your dog will be relieved when you assume the responsibility for leadership in your relationship. In addition to discipline and training, adequate exercise is essential for a German Shepherd to keep the dog's energy in balance.

Rescue

If you have a German Shepherd that you must give up, contact a German Shepherd rescue group near you. Your dog must be current in its vaccinations and health care, and it must undergo a health check and personality evaluation. You will be asked to pay a modest fee to cover the expenses associated with taking your dog.

If you think that adopting a German Shepherd rescue dog might be right for you, contact your local German Shepherd group to find out what kind of dog might be right for you. You must be an adult and have the consent of all adults in your household before you will be considered as an adoptive parent of a German Shepherd rescue dog. If you rent your home, your landlord must provide written approval for you to adopt a dog.

The German Shepherd rescue group will match you with a dog and place the dog temporarily in your foster care to see how you and the dog get along. You will be required to pay a fee commensurate with the age and health of the dog you adopt. Charging adoption fees reinforces the commitment inherent in adopting a dog and eliminates would-be adopters who are not willing to make personal sacrifices to help the adoption succeed.

The King Without Crown

William Shakespeare was not only the name of a play writer but also, he was a versatile genius in the sky of English literature who led his pen through out the intensive problems of human beings irrespective of castes and creed and even with his gallant touch, the common phenomena of human societies have been reflected in a systematic manner. As he has entered in English literature as a Play Writer but he has thought about the poetic diction in the world which speaks about the nature, love and the superiority of natural aspects virtually. In his flow of writing, he has included all sorts of literary contents very tactfully and used his dialect in the creation of world literature for which he had had the recognition of the world as the greatest author and dramatist.

William Shakespeare was born at par Avon in Stratford where he was brought up and so far it is learnt that his father was a carpenter in a Weaving factory He received his primary education from Stratford and afterwords, he joined to a drama club from where he had started his career as a play writer. Afterwords, he had written a number of world class books on English literature out of which King Lear, Hamlet, Macbeth, Troilus and Cressida, as you like it, Julius Caesar, Anthony and Cleopatra, Measures for Measure are the greatest. In every of his literary creations, he added the dimension of poetic diction and thus he ornamented his literary stringency with full aspects human problems and their solutions. His poem in English literature is unforgettable because he has brought the contrasts of feelings in between man and nature. As has been reflected in the sonnet XXIX by William Shakespeare, a true love of his beloved with nature has been vividly contemplated in a significant manner. The poet thinks that his love for his beloved will be never ending. Even, some changes may occur in natures which always show the sequence of transient trend of life. The influences on change-ability of the nature over the earth are melancholy and transitory. Human beings are developed in the earth and flourished through some changes day by day after a short span of time, causing decay and destruction, he dies and his everything on earth is faded away as a symbol transient growth of nature. The poet thinks that he has unlimited love towards his beloved and this love is never changed as the nature changes and develops and withers. The beauties on earth are temporary and as such melancholic strain prevails in its every influence over the plants, environment and the situation that occurs after change. The earth is changing with the changes of nature and his love cannot be changed which is permanently bedded on integrity, peace and faith in his heart. The poet presents a true love, which is uncommon, but illuminating conflagration will occur spontaneously.

Conflagration

According to William Shakespeare, the nature is encountered with unbounded sequence of earthly objects and beauteous outpourings occur in the mental attitude of the poet. To speak the truth, the poet has an immense love for his beloved and in exchange of anything it is pure and unparalleled. The poet envisages that due to changes on the nature, his love will never be changed rather it will be hidden forever. In this poem, the theme is ideally judged in terms of allegorical meaning of real love and purity of life. It is obvious that the poet's love is heavenly dedicated which lies forever. It is neither perishable nor changeable. According to him, his perpetual and happy love always remains in his inward eye, which reveals the utmost sphere of livelihood. His life is without love for his beloved does not show any significance of real life in the sense.

The King Without Crown

There is no denying the fact that once there was discernment that brought into being popular during the 16th century in England. It was in fastidious proliferated by the Tudor rulers in order to ensure the prolongation by their rules as the system of kingship was supposed to be fixed by the deity himself where men's willingness was fake and fabricated. This doctrine affirmed that the king was god specified, self-governing and a direct representative of supernatural being on earth. Therefore under no state of affairs was the king to be aloof, put back as this throne appropriated on this would be alongside the strength of character of God. Once a king was named he was to remain one until he died or usual death and even to step down from the kingship was not permissible.

Conflagration

In his famous book, 'Troilus and Cressida' William Shakespeare verbalizes, "Take but degree away, untune that string, And hark, what discord follows" where he sought after to articulate explicitly that for the Elizabethans, the dominion was not minimally a well-designed role where it was a fundamental part of a pecking order predestined by God himself which accommodates the celestial, saintly, human being, mammal and materialistic world. Everything had its selected place in this progression. To dislocate was to provoke pandemonium. The king was God's right to be heard on earth and whichever attempt to squeeze the throne from him would lead to mayhem and suffice it to pronounce that it was not some far-flung theory which subsequently several Shakespeare's plays are apprehensive with the remove from power of kings - and that cataclysm perpetually tag along - is a manifestation of the implication of the impression, and of Elizabethan fretfulness about the chain to the queen.

The Elizabethans would have initiated it easier said than done to comprehend Lear's renunciation. Even of inferior quality was to carve up the kingdom and thus generate scope for potential rivalry: such an accomplishment could not be tolerated by a people for whom the internecine bloodlettings of the wars of the Roses hang about a folk reminiscence. Shakespeare's social group would understand Lear's tribulations: a worn-out aged king with no son to succeed to his favorite daughter uncommitted. But they would have distinguished no answer but for the king to endure: God had placed him on the throne and, in the comprehensiveness of time, God would remove him. If they implicit Lear's dilemma, they would recognize even better the chaos mechanism from his wrong-headed resolution.

There is supplementary delicate standpoint in which we have to view this premise of kingship. The play seems to point toward that the altitude of the throne can distort the person who occupies it. Lear has been congregated for so long with adulation that he can no longer make a distinction connecting sincerity and deception. He has for so long been obeyed in every scrupulous that he cannot stand for the slightest delay in the observance of his wishes. That which in the young king might have been forthright and assertive has now degenerated into the vain, harsh and imperious. It is an inquiring feeling whether it occurs in the case of all leaders, rulers and kings. Perhaps but what we know for certain is that Lear has to undergo an agonized flaking away of accumulated layers of insensitivity and obtuseness before finding himself. Would he have needed to do so if he had been a humble servant rather than a sovereign? It seems by a hair's breadth likely. Is a king sufferer as able-bodied as a ruler?

Even supposing, misfortunes in King Lear shoots up to a paramount celestial height, the chronicles finds its pedigree in an awful status like run of the mill which envisage the apprehension between parents and grown up children which reflect readers to be more intensive to have eagerness to know the situation ahead. At its simplest, the play concerns itself with the expectations of aged parents and the differing responses of their adult children. Shakespeare's Macbeth had no doubt about 'that which should accompany old age' which he clarifies as 'tribute, devotion, submission'. King Lear would certainly say amen to that although he would add gratitude. His antagonism with Cordelia stems not only just from mortification and hurt pride, but also from rage at her apparent ungratefulness. As he is progressively broken by Goneril and Regan, his torment resounds on this theme and even until he begins to learn through suffering, Lear's thoughts are for himself of what his children's obligations are to him, of what he has done for them and how it should be rewarded. The key problem is that both parents and children are confronting a time of changeover, of exchange of power and authority. The parents are in taking a rain check, the young at the peak of their power and energy. We see two responses from the children. One, from Cordelia and Edgar, is to love and succour their parents, accept their faults, bear no grudge, bide their time. The other, from Goneril, Regan and Edmond, is ruthless, self-centered, annoyed and heavy-handed. The old are past it, no more than an encumbrance and an obstruction. They must be hard-pressed aside and inheritance detained. The best expression of this comes from Edmond, in the words he attributes to Edgar:' I have heard him of mountain it to be fit that, sons at perfect age, and fathers declined, the father should be as ward to the son and the son manages his revenue' . Lear, of course, receives similarly short sheriff and In scene iv Goneril speaks repeatedly of his dotage the point is driven home later by Regan. As his daughters strip him of his retinue, Lear brokenly points out' I gave you all'. The retort expresses well the philosophy of usurping 'And in the nick of time, you bestow it' and as such the fool drives home the point:

'The hedge sparrow fed the cuckoo so long
That it's hard if head bit off by it young'

Lear, Gloucester and Kent cherish a conservative view in which family bonds, commitment, amazement and reverence for pecking order are paramount: Gloucester, surveying the crumbling of Lear's world and his own, laments: "We have seen the best of our time, Edmond, Goneril and Regan are the hard-headed, clear-sighted progressive - modernists who have no time for antiquated ideas. They are of today and the future, ordering their lives and very much in charge of their fate. The conflicting attitudes of the children reach their apotheoses dramatically. Goneril and Regan combine to break their father; Edmond contributes to the blinding of Gloucester. Nothing will be allowed to stand in their way. A corresponding apotheosis restores the old values; when Edgar leads his blinded father to some retrieval of hope and happiness, when cordelia reassures the bewildered Lear, they are not being obedient, not responding to any hierarchical imperative. They are simply expressing a love, loyalty and regard too strong to have been undermined by the rash misjudgment of their father.

This straightforward fiction of two impulsion aged men, betrayed by self-interested progeny and redeemed by the feelings of affection for of a wronged child, has a widespread significance. As children we have got to all come to terms with our attitudes to our parents, to their and our shifting needs. As parents we must brazen out the fact that our children will outgrow us and supersede. It is evident that there is no easy answer, no superficial ethics. conceivably, however, we learn with Lear and Gloucester , Cordelia and Edgar, that the old must not anticipate to receive all, must continue to give, to realize to learn- and the young must hold out care for and respect for as long as we are concerned with or for craving to receive in question. Things cannot be hurried for which it is universally noted that ripeness is all.

Not only in King Lear, had he written many tragedy plays where has he enlightened the problems, love and enmity of human beings. In Hamlet, he had added the beauty of Hamlet with nature and supernatural aspects. In this book, he had used many literary techniques like simile, metaphor and soliloquy with which he led his pen about Hamlet with unbounded courage and hardihood. When Hamlet came to learn the death news of his father, he became amazing and he was also surprised that his mother had married his uncle Claudius. By supernatural aspects of his father's ghostly sprits, he learnt about the conspiracy of his uncle and mother and as such he promised to revenge against the murder of his father. William Shakespeare very nicely represented the character of Hamlet and finally he became successful when Hamlet had had his revenge at last against his uncle and mother.

All the way through suffering, Lear learns a new ethical view of his life and human relationship with one another specifically if the relation is framed with close human ties. According to him, it is a judgment nowhere in signal in early stages of the play, which develop in a mood of ruthless materialism, of that which can be counted and measured. Gloucester and Kent have a discussion of the sharing out of the kingdom; Lear wants his daughters to express the dimensions of their love; the actual number of knights becomes a crucial symbol of self-hood. A man it appears is what he owns, an expression of his belongings having stressed by his daughters into justifying his needs for a retinue, Lear's speech beginning 'O reason not the need' is magnificently moved, but cracks down in confusion. He seems to be asserting that man needs superfluous items in order to mark him off from animals, but the line of thought will not hold. It is, in any case a view that he will draw closer to discard.

It is throughout the storm that Lear loses his footing towards a conception of what a man really is, what his true needs are. From uncontrolled against charlatan, he turns to sympathy for the unrehearsed -'meager nude wretches' before becoming one himself by dragging off his clothes in emulation of poor Tom. He, by his cosmopolitan outlook enunciates through the world of surface impressions: he recognizes and expresses that he is one of the lowliest. Lear continues to learn of keen necessity of honesty, sincerity, simplicity and openness. It is a theme which culminates in his in his reunion with Cordelia and particularly in his birds in the cage speech. The important thing is to be with those one loves and trusts, to seek and offer forgiveness as may be necessitated to make merriment's to each other company. And regarding the justice of human beings, we find in King Lear that the wealthy and mighty don't guarantee even handed justice; those with the whip-hand of power and authority often abuse it. Considering Lear's trial of his daughter's affection his disgusting punishment of Cordelia and Kent; the flaying of Lear and Gloucester by the newly installed high and mighty; the cruel death of Cordelia. The demented trial of scene iii act vi some how projects deceptiveness of it all, while Lear's eruption in scene IV against the rascal beadle and robes and furred gowns is a fulminating attack on evil motives virtually. Gloucester contributes to this understanding in that his blinding, by rich and elevated is a catalyst which simply attracts goodness from the ordinary servants and the old man who guides him. This is why like Lear he comes to see the importance of sharing affluence and ruination excess. The best certification of righteousness seems to lie not in setting one man over another, but in mutual sympathy and regard for each others dignity and needs. As we are to conjecture that lusting after riches and belongings is eventually self slaughter and severe death of Cornwall, Goneril, Regan, and Edmond seem to peak to this. On the other hand, Lear and Gloucester- two old men who suffer and loss so much -seem in a sense to be triumphant, for they achieve some grasp of man's need for outspokenness, justice truth, absolution and love.

In his literary creation, he had shown that over ambitious in life is a dangerous thing. In Julius Caesar, Brutus was an over ambitious person and he had a long cherished desire to become a king over night. But after killing the king Caesar, he had been cut into pieces let alone being the king. Similarly, Macbeth was over ambitious but his consequence was very fatal. He had written a number of historic plays and romantic comedy. In all of his creation, he was second to none in creating history in English literature by his unbounded race towards the reforms process of human defects and the maxim of nature.

12-21-2012 - What Does This Date Mean?

There are multiple speculations as to the significance of 12 21 2012. This date is the last date on the Mayan Calendar. For many, this is a prediction of the end of the world. To others, it means a significant change in lifestyles.

The Mayans are very famous for their expertise in mathematics and astronomy. Therefore, many scientists believe the significance is related to the alignment of the stars. Apparently, on this date, the earth will align with the sun and the Milky Way. Science predicts a polar shift is possible within the next few years. If this happens, mankind is unlikely to survive. A polar shift would cause mass destruction on earth. We're talking about earthquakes, tsunami's, hurricanes, tornadoes and possibly another ice age.

Tsunami

Many people also believe that this alignment will cause some sort of enlightenment to mankind. Maybe this has something to do with brain usage. Humans use a very small portion of their brains, maybe this alignment will somehow wake up the portions of our brains that we have been unable to use so far.

Many predictions have been made over the years as to the significance of 12 21 2012. Nostradamus believed that earth would be struck by a comet or have a near miss with one. He believed this would ultimately cause the beginning of World War III. Edgar Cayce, the most famous psychic of the 20th century, believed that the earth would experience a magnetic pole shift. This would ultimately be the cause of the end of life as we know it.

How to Help Pets During Disasters

In recent years, we've seen many disasters wreak havoc in different parts of the world: the tsunami in Thailand, Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, and the earthquake in Haiti, just to name a few. As pet lovers, our hearts do double-duty, going out to both the people involved as well as their displaced pets. Now that the Gulf Coast is once again in the midst of a disaster due to the BP oil spill, we can't help but wonder how to help the people and pets in the area.

We've pulled together some useful information about how to help pets during this tragic oil spill - as well as how to help pets during any type of disaster and what you can do if a disaster strikes where you live.

Tornado Disaster

Help for Pets Affected by the Oil Spill

How to Help Pets During Disasters

Local animal shelters in the Gulf region are flooded with dogs and cats that have been given up. Animal Rescue New Orleans has received many calls from families who have lost their jobs due to the spill. Other shelters have doubled and even tripled their intake of pets whose families had to decide that they could no longer afford to care for them.

Tornado Disaster

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) has stepped in to do what it can to help out and has already transferred many surrendered dogs to their headquarters in Gaithersberg, Maryland. These dogs have been picked up by local shelters and groups for adoption.

HSUS has also made strides to assist families in keeping their pets. 12 tons of dog and cat food have been delivered to the Gulf area to be distributed to residents who have been directly affected by the spill.

There are many ways to make a contribution toward both the pets that have lost their homes and those in danger of being surrendered:

- The dogs that HSUS transported back to Maryland are available for adoption through the Loudon County Animal Shelter, Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation, and the SPCA of Anne Arundel County.

- Animal Rescue of New Orleans has a Pet Retention Program, where a /month donation can help ease the financial burden of caring for a pet so that families can keep them, rather than give them up.

- Make a donation, volunteer, or even adopt a pet from St. Bernard's Parish and Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society - just two of the many shelters who have seen a dramatic rise in surrendered pets.

- The Deepwater Horizon Response has information on volunteering to help wildlife in the area.

Help for Pets Affected by Any Disaster

There are many organizations geared toward helping pets that are in need at any time. In the throes of a disaster, their response units mobilize and do whatever they can to help. Here are a few that are always grateful for volunteers and financial support:

1. Humane Society of the United States (HSUS): They've already been helping with the oil spill effort and they have their own special National Disaster Animal Response Team (NDART™). NDART™ is made up of animal care professionals and other qualified volunteers and takes applications for new team members. Donations can also be made here.

2. PAWS: This nonprofit organization specializes in rehabilitating injured and orphaned wildlife, as well as sheltering and adopting homeless pets in Washington State. They also assist in disasters that happen locally. Volunteers and foster homes are needed in the Lynwood, Washington area and donations to the organization can be made here.

3. ASPCA: I don't doubt that you've seen their heart-wrenching commercials advertising the fact that there are so many pets out there who need help. The ASPCA also devotes their efforts for pets that are victims of natural disasters. You can help keep their natural disaster team in action and support the ASPCA as a whole by becoming a member or making a donation.

How to Keep Your Pets Safe During Disasters

You never know if your family will be facing a hurricane, tornado, flood, earthquake, or any other type of disaster. Not only should you have a disaster plan for you and your family members, you should also have one in place for your pets. Here are a few tips to help you be prepared:

- Keep a collar and tag on your dogs and cats at all times. During a disaster an animal can escape and a collar and tag increases your chances of getting your beloved pet back. The tag should include your phone number and address (and maybe even your email address). If you have been evacuated and are going to be living away from home for an extended period of time, have a temporary tag made with the phone number of where you are staying. Email may also be a good form of communication for you while you are not staying at home.

- Identify several possible locations outside of your area where you can take your animals should you have to evacuate such as boarding kennels, veterinary clinics with boarding space, and friends and other family members. Look for hotels/motels that accept animals. Red Cross evacuation shelters do not allow animals, so be sure you have somewhere else to go with your pets.

- Set up a system with your trusted neighbors, so that they will check on your animals during a disaster in case you aren't home (and do the same for them). Swap information about your pets' veterinarians and have a permission slip put in your file at the vet, authorizing your neighbor to get necessary emergency treatment for your animal in the event that you can't be reached.

- Prepare a pet evacuation/disaster kit that includes food, water, and everything your pet needs to survive and be as comfortable as possible until the danger has passed. Keep all of the items stored in a sturdy, waterproof carrier, that's easy to carry. Your kit should be readily accessible so that it can be retrieved quickly.

Visit our website for the full list of what your pet disaster kit should contain and other pertinent disaster preparedness information.

Disasters often strike when you're least expecting it. Pets are very much a part of the family and are also victims of disaster. There are many ways to help, including volunteering and donations - but don't forget about keeping your own family and pets safe by being prepared so that you are able to help others in distress.

Collectible Posters

A Dave Matthews poster is among some of the most sought after posters around. There are many that are made by talented artists who sign and number them, and sometimes only offer limited quantities. Many movie posters and entertainment posters from the 1930s and upward are worth in the tens of thousands of dollars. Posters of current artists are becoming more and more collectible. This band's legions of loyal fans love to snap up a Dave Matthews poster or CD. Some of the earlier posters that include their deceased saxophonist are beloved by their fans.

The band formed in early 1991 and by 1993 they released their first album on their own label, entitled "Remember Two Things." It debuted on college charts as the highest independent entry. As the band continued to tour, their fan base continued to grow. The band did something unique; they allowed their fans to record the shows for their own personal use. In this way, the Dave Matthews Band created an interactive community and became known to more and more people. In 1994, they recorded an album on RCA and began their first official national tour. By 1995 this album was certified four times platinum. The boys had definitely arrived and so had the demand for all things Dave Matthews, including a very large demand for Matthews posters.

Tsunami

Matthews Band grew from a grass roots phenomenon to one of the very hottest bands in all of America. By 2000 they were the top grossing touring band in the United States. In 2001 Dave Matthews played electric guitar for the first time. A Dave Matthews poster of Dave with his electric guitar is scooped up by fans and collectors alike. The band has done so much touring over the last eighteen years and many of the posters reflect their tour sites. You can find a colorful poster from their concert at Madison Square Garden or an intriguing new poster for an upcoming concert in Charlottesville, Virginia which is their hometown and where it all began for them. Black and white and color posters are available by online retailers. A Dave Matthews poster complete with the signatures of all the original band members continues to increase in value. There are even some great hand painted posters done by their fans.

Collectible Posters

The band is always anxious to reward their loyal followers and created a website in 2005 that continues to provide their fans with video footage and updates on an album's progress. They did a benefit for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, helped tsunami struck communities in Sri Lanka and even have taken a proactive role in fighting global warming. It is no wonder that this band is so beloved by their fans and why concert tickets as well as Dave Matthews posters continue to sell like hot cakes!

On Writing Well - The Importance of Avoiding Redundant Words and Phrases

On Writing Well - The Importance of Avoiding Redundant Words and Phrases

Never is it truer that the human mind works in strange ways than when an author finds his or her draft littered with the same words or phrases. What makes this particularly galling is that proficient writers strive not to do this, yet quite often are unable to prevent syntax which is redundant--or reads as repetitive--from appearing on a page.

Words That Stand Out--Unfortunately

Conflagration

Oddly, it's the words that are most ordinary which can often cause the most grief. Words such as "because" or "become," should they be placed in consecutive sentences or paragraphs (even lengthy ones), can stick in the reader's mind as redundant. Along this line of commonality, too many "was's" can gum up an otherwise good run of narrative. Word repetition can be as hard on the reader as the excessive use of specialty punctuation such as the semi-colon or the exclamation point.

Some More of The Usual Suspects

Another chronic problem is the word "would," since the options for a suitable substitute generally are limited to "should" and "could," at best. Perhaps the greatest difficulty of all is what to use after the first "but." "However," "yet," and even "except," can often serve in a pinch, but--well, you see the problem.

The Fix for Overuse of the Conjunction "But"

The best way to remedy repeating the conjunction "but" is to begin a new sentence as if it were an extended thought and not a contrary view. Example: John saw Mary in the park, but didn't like the guy she was with, so he kept walking. Rewrite as: John saw Mary in the park. He didn't like the guy she was with, so he kept walking.

Select Alternates for Prepositions

"Afterwards" can become "later," just as "under" can often be modified to read "below" and not deprecate the writer's intent. And while we are trained to use one word to take the place of many, it's sometimes prudent to write "at this time" instead of a redundant "now." Even a "presently" might need to be inserted instead of "now" to prevent duplication.

Homonyms are Just as Bad as Repeating Words

I recently read a draft with the following phrase: The weather was going to determine whether or not they would be going out. This is an easy sentence to repair by substituting "if" for "whether," and dropping the "or not." But it's not always simple to spot a problem. In this following sentence, the syntax might be ignored: Every fall, John would haul wood in his wheelbarrow. And even something more blatant might be missed, such as: It was too much to bear, and I barely got the words out.

Both Complicated or Sophisticated Words Must be Watched

When a writer uses words such as "conflagration" or "beatification," these can only be placed in a novel once. And I don't even like to see them in multiple novels by the same author. The latter comment might seem a stretch, but when an author develops an unintended tic, this isn't good, since it makes the writing stale in the eyes of the loyal reader.

Phrases, Especially Clever One's, Cannot be Used Again

A slick phrase will stay with the reader, and the ability to craft this sort of rhetoric is often why people lean toward certain authors. But it's important to keep in mind that the inherent nature of a unique rift of narrative is what will be remembered. A phrase like the following, including the adjective predicate by itself, can only be written one time: His face contorted, as if the result of an unpleasant musical note of his own making. One contorted face per book, please, regardless of how it got that way,

But What if there are Only so Many Ways Something can be Written?

When I'm writing a police thriller, I often run into a problem with the word "policeman." After perhaps following it with "cop," and later "officer," then "patrolman" (if it fits), I'm forced to return to the first noun. There are indeed times when there are only so many options to identify a person by name or profession and still be accurate. In the "policeman" example, if the person's last name is Jones, creating Patrolman Jones, Officer Jones, or offering just plain Jones to the mix in a long scene may still not be enough, and there will be no choice but to repeat a handle.

Yet when it's deemed necessary to restate a name in the same sentence, this should be an extremely rare occurrence and every attempt should be made to write around this sort of thing. And it's important to keep in mind that no matter how problematic the text might read when certain words continue to reappear, redundant phrases can leave a much more negative impression of the narrative.

African Grey Parrot Rescue - How You Can Help

Lovers of parrots would certainly be familiar with the African grey, as it is considered, by many, to be the most intelligent and affectionate bird in the world. Its popularity amongst bird lovers is such that there are now several African grey parrot rescue organizations, which have been specifically set up to rescue these wonderful birds from any danger, neglect and abuse they may be facing and adopt them out to loving families as pets.

If you are interested in helping out one of these organizations, or in adopting an African grey parrot for yourself, there are several things you can do. The first step would be to find out as much information as you can about the African grey and share that information with people you know, especially those who are considering keeping one as a pet. The grey is a highly exotic bird and many people do not really know how to properly care for such a magnificent creature. As such, these birds often end up in neglectful circumstances, not being well looked after, simply due to people's lack of education and preparedness.

Rescue

Another way that you can assist with African grey parrot rescue is to tell everyone you know that rescued parrots can be adopted through these organizations. The screening process for adoption is very thorough and people will not be considered as 'parrot parents' unless they are suitably qualified to take care of the bird, so remember, education about caring for an African grey is vital.

African Grey Parrot Rescue - How You Can Help

Last, but not least, you can help with parrot rescue by donating your time or money to a reputable organization. These organizations are usually self-funded and staffed by willing volunteers, so any help you could offer, in these areas, would certainly be much appreciated.

Rescue

The African grey parrot would make an ideal pet for any family, large or small. Its intelligence and affectionate nature means that you would end up with a pet that is just as concerned about you and your well being as you are about it and it's well being!

Support of parrot rescue organizations is vital for the health and preservation of these wonderful birds. You can find African grey parrot rescue organizations over the internet or perhaps in your local telephone directory.

IDOT Receives F Grade on Emergency Preparedness and Terrorism

IDOT Receives F Grade on Emergency Preparedness and Terrorism

The IDOT - Illinois Department of Transportation received an "F" grade for emergency preparedness from a real independent research report, even though the Department of Homeland Security funded over 52 Million. The Illinois Trucking Association apparently was unable to assist in remedying the problem. The Illinois Trucking Association touts this as one of their major contributions to our Nations Truck Safety.

Just because the trucking Association sits in committees for hours putting into minutes what a true leader could have done in seconds does not make them an expert on the subject. Often an industry association will go out of their way to promote the fact that sat on committees with government, but seldom when the results were a dismal failure. Rather than taking credit for being on a specific committee that is relevant to the future success and security of the nation, it is more important to protect the American People.

Terrorism

Only success is relevant and the Illinois Department of Transportation which received an "F-Grade" on emergency preparedness and terrorism is nothing to hang one's hat on, especially after the uncovered plot from the FBI in NY recently to attack a fuel pipeline to the airport. We must demand more from our Industry Associations, our government and the many committees that are assigned to the important tasks of our society and civilization.

There can be no excuse for failure, no excuse for lack of integrity and absolutely no excuse for padded résumés promoting nothingness and hoping that no one notices. Industry and business must work seamlessly with our nation to insure the protection and welfare of all we are and all we have built and the American People who own it all.

4 Step Guide to Contracting Opportunities For the Disaster Relief and Reconstruction Process

4 Step Guide to Contracting Opportunities For the Disaster Relief and Reconstruction Process

The federal government anticipates spending over 0 billion dollars for the Katrina and Rita hurricane disaster relief and reconstruction efforts. Contracting opportunities abound for businesses of all sizes and types and there is a great need for varied services and products. Businesses throughout the US can explore the contracting opportunities by following these four steps.

The disaster-related services and products needed in the Gulf states will cover every aspect of life, business and government in the affected areas. Savvy companies are working to fill the needs now. However, this is a long-term, multi-layered process. While initial contracts have already been secured, there will be many more contracts worth billions of dollars to come over the next 6-12-18 months and longer. Those firms that employ both short-term and long-term strategies will be the most successful.

Disaster Recovery Planning

Step 1: Identify the Agencies with the Budgets to Buy What You Sell

This is one of the advantages in doing business with the federal government. Unlike the corporate environment, you can find out what agencies have budgets projected for your products and services and when they are planning to spend it.

The Department of Commerce Hurricane Contracting Information Center (HCIC) will help U.S. businesses, especially minority and small businesses, participate in the Gulf Coast rebuilding efforts. The HCIC allows companies to register with government agencies that are providing contracts to rebuild the Gulf Coast. The HCIC also provides basic information on doing business with the government, e-mail alerts regarding specific contracting opportunities, links to other government and local agencies, and information about minority business services.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is constantly changing to best serve the nation's requirements. The 22 agencies that initially made up the DHS originally maintained independent purchasing power. Now, the eight offices listed here are responsible for all procurement functions of the DHS.

DHS Acquisition Offices:

DHS Headquarters

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Note: FEMA is the key agency responsible for the majority of disaster-related budgets

Customs and Border Protection (CBP)

Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC)

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)

Transportation Security Administration (TSA)

U.S. Secret Service (USSS)

U.S. Coast Guard Office of Procurement Management (USCG)

FedBizOpps is a federal government website that provides a central listing of most current federal contracts. Register at their website to receive the notices of bids and contracts that go through the normal contract advertising process. However, it has been noted on the FedBizOpps web site that many emergency contracts may not make it to this public forum. You may need to contact each agency to determine the specific opportunities available.

For past expenditures, check with the Federal Procurement Data Center (FPDC), part of the U.S. General Services Administration. The FPDC manages the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS), which is the current central repository of historical information on Federal contracting. The system contains detailed information on contract actions over ,500. The Executive departments and agencies award over 0 billion annually for goods and services. The system can identify who bought what, from whom, for how much, when and where.

Prime or General Contractors (GC) will be a source of sub-contracts for companies of all sizes. This disaster is of a magnitude that the US has never seen before and many contracting operations will be handled directly by Primes or GCs.

Action Items:

A. Check the agencies that have a history of purchasing your products and services.

B. Use some sort of contact manager software like ACT! or Goldmine to build your own government procurement database and schedule regular follow-up.

C. New vendors: Get registered in the Central Contractor Registry: http://www.ccr.gov

Step 2: Find the Specific Offices in Your Targeted Agencies That are Most Likely to Purchase Your Products and Services

The DHS and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) have nationwide agencies and offices, as do Primes and GCs. Do you want to target areas that are geographically convenient to you? Do you have service, shipping or delivery issues that demand a local presence to your customers? How will this affect your bottom line? Can you effectively offer regional, national or international support? You will be most effective if you geographically prioritize the specific agencies, primes, GCs and offices to target.

Action Items:

A. Contact the agencies to participate in their Vendor Outreach and one-on-one sessions.

B. Review the DHS Prime Contractors list on the DHS website for the top five that are your best matches. Contact the small business liaisons to schedule capabilities briefings.

C. Visit the USACE website: http://www.usace.army.mil/ and identify the General Contractors (GCs) that are your best matches.

Step 3: Identify the Specific PEOPLE in Your Targeted Offices

You want to find the specific decision-makers because they are your best connections to getting the business you want. They are THE KEY to your success. Finding the right people and taking the time and effort to building solid relationships will guarantee your long-term success.

Finding the agencies and end-users who buy what you sell is one of the most difficult aspects of government sales. And yet it is one of the most important because finding the people who buy your product or service is the most critical step in a successful targeted marketing and sales program.

Within the agency, thousands of program managers, program professionals, operating supervisors, engineers, and scientists participate in deciding what to purchase and from whom. These are the people you want to take the time find and to whom you want to introduce yourself.

The strategy is to identify both the end-users and the people involved in the actual procurement process. Market your abilities, solutions and products to the end-users so that they recommend your products and service specifications to the procurement personnel, so that yours is the company the bid "was written for."

Action Items:

A. Use the DHS and USACE websites to identify the following people who are keys to your success and put them in your contact manager software:

--The Points of Contact (POC) for the US Army Corps of Engineers, DHS agencies, State agencies, Red Cross, etc.

--The Small Business Specialists

--Prime Contractor Small Business Liaisons

B. Use the information you have researched from the FPDC web site to detail the specific people who have purchased your products or services in the past. Add them to your contact manager.

C. Set up a schedule of contacts with these people. The contacts should include personal phone calls, emails, direct mail, visits during procurement conferences and all out-reach sessions. Try for at least 12 to 18 touches per year. Since active procurement projects are progress, step this up to every few weeks.

D. Long Term Action Item: As you build relationships with the Contracting Officers and Specialists, ask them for the names of the end users who are involved in the projects related to your products and services. Ideally, as you work with them you can begin to really understand the problems they experience and educate them how you can solve those problems. And perhaps become a preferred vendor.

E. Join the International Association of Emergency Managers

Step 4: Identify Business Development Processes Appropriate for Your Services and Products

If you want to develop both short and long term business opportunities involved in the disaster reconstruction process you must develop a strategy that utilizes a variety of tactics. These are the most effective:

Web site: Make sure it is specifically addresses the government's purchasing best practices on your home page. Does your home page also note your GSA schedule and certifications?

Email: Is it professional? Do you use your business domain name? Or are you still using yahoo, hotmail or some non-business related address? It is very important to appear as professional as possible. Your business should be stable, reliable, established. Free or personal email accounts make you appear fly-by-night or non-professional.

Do you accept government purchase cards? This is mandatory in the government contracting environment. And it also works to your advantage by speeding up payments.

Action Items:

A. Take a critical look at your business development tools to determine if they meet the specific needs of your government prospects and clients. Give your website TOP PRIORITY.

B. Identify the companies that could be good teaming partners. Add them to your contact manager and start the relationship building process.

C. Schedule a pro-active contact process with all targeted contacts and assign specific tasks to specific people in your firm.

If you use these specific tactics and strategies you will find that you will have better opportunities for government contracts in both the short and long term.

Indonesia Tsunami Warning System - What is Being Done?

Indonesia Tsunami Warning System - What is Being Done?

Nobody in the present period will forget the 200,000 victims of the Indonesia Tsunami, which was caused by the Sumatra Earthquake on Christmas Eve. But what is being done in the region now while it is still seismic active with major Volcanoes and Earthquakes? The Pacific Rim of Fire needs warning system throughout, along with the Indian Ocean, there too is seismic activity in the Caribbean as well, thus, we should be considering systems here too.

Indeed, there are some good things that are being done right now to save lives so another 200,000 people do not perish next time there is a Tsunami or a large Earthquake, which triggers one. As the Japanese, Americans and several other nations are installing Tsunami Warning systems around the globe, time is important too, the more systems that are in place, the safer human civilizations close to the water can be and there are problems now with Volcanoes and some people will not evacuate as they believe that the Volcano represents a safe passage to the final journey in life? And Volcanoes are an environmental nightmare for humans and nature. Although some could say it is merely the cleansing of the Earth so it can start a new and part of the cycle?

Japan Earthquakes

There have been over the last two-years hundreds of large 4 plus Earthquakes and many over 6 and 7 also. The region is very seismically active and these Tsunami Alarms will help warn people of any impending Tsunami Wave to allow people lead time to evacuate the area near the ocean. Consider this in 2006.

Count Your Blessings

Count Your Blessings

Counting your blessings is important. We should be grateful for all the things we have been given, but to be grateful in the right way it could be a good idea to imagine you lost everything you have. You need to read this article, and follow the instructions to get the full benefit of all of this.

The three steps are these:

Tsunami

Lose everything Realize how life would be without all of this Be grateful as you think of all the things you still have
Lose everything

You must now imagine that you lose everything. Your partner leaves, your kids are gone, your house burnt down, your car stolen and burnt. You have nothing except for the clothes on your body. You know you had a few dollars in yoiur pocket, but to your great regret you discover holes in your pockets.

You have nothing!

Everything has disappeared. You're out of a job, you have no internet, no photos of your kids, no means of transportation whatsoever. Even you mobile phone is out of power, and you obviously have no recharger anymore.

Realize how life would be without all of this

Face the music. Ponder the situation. What can you do? What would you do?

Close your eyes, and imagine this type of scenario.

What is your state of mind in the midst of this? Total despair, or even just a little bit of hope?

Before you deny this as pure imagination, think of people who have experienced this. People who lost their homes during the Tsunami or earthquake or floods in the United States. This could happen.

Be thankful when you have all the things I still think

Now is the time to be thankful for is that it did not happen. They appreciate every thing back to you. Your partner, your children, your memories, etc.

Show your appreciation for all the people around you. Express your gratitude. Even the smallest details are worthy of your appreciation.

How can this

The value of this exercise iscounting your blessings in order to be more attentive towards what you are blessed with. Do show you're happy around friends and family. Share your blessings and build relationships rather than focusing on material things which could pass away sooner than most people realize.

What Are the Natural Disasters?

So, natural disaster it's called only when the social or economic problem is triggered by a freak of nature. Loe Golden said "a potential danger becomes a disaster if it occurs where people live."

In the past natural disasters were signed mostly to developing countries that do not have the media to tell time to the population or the infrastructure for that. Today no country is exempt to suffer a major catastrophe.

Tornado Disaster

KINDS OF NATURAL DISASTERS

What Are the Natural Disasters?

Have been classified more than 20 disaster risks are capable of producing. Ranging from earthquakes to fog and mist, but the most important are:

Tornado Disaster

Hydrologic stormy waves, tsunamis.

WeNatural Disasterather: Floods, hurricanes, cyclones, typhoons, tornadoes, drought, frost, hailstorms, cold waves, heat, snow or winter storm.

Geophysical: Seismic and volcanic activity, avalanches, landslides, mudslides, avalanches.

Biological: Crimson Tide (appearance on the surface of water mussels, clams, etc. Who are carriers of toxins and alter the food chain).

Can we prevent disasters?

Natural Disaster

We can not prevent the occurrence of natural phenomena. But we can make them less damaging if we understand better why they happen and what can we do to prevent or mitigate them. Taking into account that people are partly responsible for the occurrence of disasters, we must change what we are doing wrong so they can avoid or lessen the impact of natural phenomena.

Each community must learn to know its characteristics and its environment: the natural and built environment by humans. Only then can handle the threats that surround it and reduce their vulnerability to them.

What Are The Real Motives Of Terrorists?

With comments like that of London mayor Ken Livingstone, have been built recently by the BBC in relation to the terrorist attacks in London, which is a sign that the socialist leaders of Europe have no idea of the enemy standing in front of our civilization. To his honor the British Prime Minister Tony Blair has rejected comments by the Mayor of London that Western "double standards" in the Middle East have contributed to the growth of Islamic extremism and terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda(CNN.com).

Socialist leader in Europe and around the world need to take a deep breath and try to understand reality. The policy of our leaders and countries are not the cause of the depraved acts of murder and ill-bomber. Just look at Spain. Even after Spain withdrew from Iraq (after the Madrid bombings), they were again attacked.

Terrorism

So what is the motive of the murderers of innocent children, women and men? We believe it is their ideology. They want the whole worldadopt their fundamentalist Islamic ideology. They believe we're infidels and must be destroyed unless we adopt their ideology (We believe that these killers represent a minority of the Muslim world and we believe the great majority of Muslims don't support their actions).

What Are The Real Motives Of Terrorists?

Since we're not going to adopt their ideology there's no way of coexisting with these killers who are inflicting a genocide on us. Yes it is a genocide, since they want to wipe us off the face of the world. They will not rest until they've destroyed every last one of us.

Terrorism

The means they use to inflict terror on us is barbaric and they inflict violence and terror on innocent children, women and men. Mr Livingstone "How often do we see these murderers attacking government buildings"? Not very often. They want to inflict pain and suffering on innocent people.
You see, Mr. Livingstone is wrong when he says that our policies are causing this genocide.
For the record, for the most part ItsTheRightWay.com doesn't even disagree with our leaders policies regarding terrorism but that's not the point.

It's the terrorists ideologies that are conflicting with the civilized world's peaceful way of life. Could it also be jealousy of our prosperous life that's causing those barbarians to carry out their violence? It most likely plays a roll but it's their ideology that's at the root of their motives.

So Germany, France and other radical socialist nations believe that sitting at a table with these killers, eating Bagets and Brie and drinking a glass of Cabernet is the right policy. We think it's plain wrong. Not that Bagets, Brie and Cabernet aren't delicious. They definitely are. This way of dealing with these murderers puts us another step behind them. While we're making small talk, they're out plotting another act of violence.

The only way to stop this genocide of the peaceful world is to hunt the terrorists down, no matter where they are. We must not yield at all. Anyone that aids these monsters must be dealt with quickly and harshly. Only when these baby killers know we mean business and will use everything at our disposal to destroy them, will they begin to begin to understand that we're serious about taking action against terrorism.

So what can we do? We must start standing up against these baby killers who the media calls freedom fighters and terrorists. Pros and Cons of Radio Advertising

Pros and Cons of Radio Advertising

As a small business owner, radio may not be the first thing you think of when you ponder ways to advertise your business. It can be a very effective and very affordable way to go if you do it right. It's not for everybody though. If you decide to try it out, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Pros and Cons: Let's start with the pros.

Tsunami

-Targetability. Different radio stations have different audiences and different demographics, and use different formats to reach them all. Trying to reach teens? 32 year old mothers who work at night? Radio can probably help you out.

-Cost. A radio spot is much less costly and much easier to have produced than a TV ad, and the air time for 30 seconds on radio is significantly less than 30 seconds on TV.

-Turn Around Time. A radio spot can be produced very quickly, much quicker than a TV ad can. It can go on the air almost immediately, whereas a print ad has to wait until the next issue comes out.

Now for some Cons.

-Here One Moment. A print ad can be cut and stored, or see you again. One radio spot has disappeared after it ended. It takes repetition to your ad noticed and remembered on other ongoing activities, people all day.

Popularity has its price. Radio Times is the most popular driving times morning and evening, as listeners are in their car. This time window can be very expensive.

-Background noise. Radio is no longer as a backgroundnoise, secondary to whatever else is going on. Maybe you're cleaning the house. Maybe you're driving the car. Repetition is the key to grabbing attention, and have an ad that connects with the listener.

At the end of the day, radio can be a very useful and very effective advertising medium for a small business. As with any big decision, make sure you know what you're getting into, and do your homework, so you don't bite off more than you can chew.

Natural Disaster Survival Kits

Disaster can strike at any time and can happen, because the act of nature or by accident or a deliberate act of man. The availability of a disaster can be difficult, but it can also mean the difference between health and injuries, minor injuries or serious injury or even life or death. The availability is critical, and this means that even with the best equipment around with an agreement of a sudden emergency. If the disaster is based municipal, or inclement weather, agood natural disaster survival kit can help individuals to survive through the worst situations.

There are two ways to go when putting together a disaster preparedness kit. One is to simply buy a kit that has already been put together by professionals. Buying an already assembled survival kit is the most normal way of going, but then the problem is that many people never bother to open the kit and familiarize themselves with the tools or materials that are inside - which defeats the entire purpose of having a kit to help prepare you for an emergency.

The other option is to put together your own homemade disaster kit. By gathering the materials yourself, you will already know how to use the resources in your kit. Even better, you can make sure that every possible contingency you can imagine from a natural disaster is covered by the materials you know will be in your kit. When preparing for any type of a natural disaster or survival situation, this is not a bad way to go.

Communication After a Disaster

There are many methods of communication after a disaster. It's a complicated subject, so in this article we'll just cover some of the basics. After most disasters, the power is going to be out and phone lines/cell phone towers will be overwhelmed. But if you prepare ahead of time, you'll be able to communicate with your friends and family.

What if the power is out?

Tornado Disaster

If you don't have a generator, most modern phones won't work. Some of the younger readers might not know this, but phones used to work fine when the power was out. Phone companies have a battery system and backup generators to supply your phone with power even during extended outages. Unfortunately most modern phones, with their answering machines and cordless capabilities, need to be plugged into an outlet. I recommend finding an old push button or rotary phone. You can find them for less than at most discount and dollar stores.

Communication After a Disaster

If you don't have such a phone, your cell phone will last for a little while, and you can use your car charger until you run out of gas or your car battery dies. But what then? I would order an Etón Self-Powered Charger. These use solar power and have a weather radio, a flashlight, and a USB cell phone charger. They work great and are only about . They even come in a variety of colors. Note: Make sure your cell phone can charge with a USB cord.

Tornado Disaster

What if the phone lines are jammed?

It is usually easier to call out of a disaster are than to contact someone within a disaster area. Because of this, it's a good idea to have a contact outside your city/state. However, if things are bad you probably won't be able to get a single call through. In that case, there are some other things you can do:

Before a disaster, you and your family should agree on a meeting place. Make sure it is near a landmark that will be recognizable even after an earthquake, flood, hurricane, terrorist attack, tornado, etc. You should agree on some local bulletin boards where you can leave messages. Check the local grocery stores, libraries, and other public locations and decide which ones to use. You'll need multiple sites because they might not all survive whatever disaster strikes your area. One-way communication is also critical in an urban survival scenario. I already mentioned the solar powered Etón Charger. But if you're not interest in that, you might want to consider a good hand crank radio. It's best if it picks up AM, FM and NOAA weather forecasts. This will be invaluable during a disaster as you will be able to get warnings and/or instructions from the authorities. Buy some walkie talkies. The best ones can cost over 0, but if money is tight, I recommend a pair of Motorola SX600R's. They're less than , have a range of over 10 miles, have 22 channels and over 100 privacy codes. Practice using them while you still can. If the worst happens, you'll be glad you have them.

Again, make sure you and your family have a plan in place and are familiar with your equipment ahead of time. Having the ability to communicate long distance during a disaster can mean the difference between life and death.

10 Questions For Emergency Preparedness

An announcement is made that you need to evacuate your area in the next 15 minutes...

A fire breaks out and it seems uncontrollable...

Pictures Of Natural Disasters

What would you take? Where are your important documents? Would you have to search through a drawer of bag filled with all kinds of stuff to get your birth certificate, passport or marriage certificate? Do you have a kit packed with essentials that you can just grab and go?

10 Questions For Emergency Preparedness

Peace of mind when it comes to adverse circumstances is part of the battle to getting through emergency situations. It is wise to be prepared and have a plan in place for emergencies. I am going to share some information with you that will help you to have peace of mind in emergency situations. I am going to walk you step by step with some questions that will help you think through what you need to do. The best time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens.

Pictures Of Natural Disasters

Here are your questions:

1. Do you have a plan for getting out of the house? Does everyone know it ? Do you have an emergency bag of food and water for your family? Include wholesome snacks and treats for the children: dried fruit, nuts, peanut butter, crackers and granola bars.

2. If you have pets, are your pet carriers and leashes readily available to lead pets to safety? Do you have some pet food in portable sizes to take with you?

3. Do you keep negatives or CDs of pictures in a lock box or at a family member's home? Do you have picture albums in one place ready to grab and go at a moments notice?

4. Do you have all your important papers in a lock box at a bank or other safe place and only keep copies at the house? This keeps you from panicking. If you have them at home then put them in a folder that you can easily grab if you have to move fast. Color code it so you can find it!

5. Are your medications easily accessible to take with you? Don't forget the ones that have to be refrigerated like insulin. Do you have a small ice chest and cold packs readily accessible to pack and go? If you have babies; remember their formula or medications.

6. Do you keep a stash of cash for emergencies? Do you have it in a place where you can easily grab it and go. You may not be able to use an ATM in the event of a power outage. Does your car always have a half a tank of gas?

7. Do you have raincoats, boots, caps/hats in case it's rainy weather at the time you may have to leave? If you have babies do you have diapers? What about your children's favorite blanket, stuffed animal or toy? What about a game or deck of cards to keep you or them occupied and calm?

8. Do you have all the information you will need -- from phone numbers and insurance numbers to important dates in a planner/calendar or some sort of journal? Calendars/planners/journals are small and can easily be taken with you.

9. For women who still have that time of the month -- do you have an extra box/packet of your preferred protection? It may be hard to find if you have been evacuated and at a shelter. Don't forget medication for cramps too.

10. Are your cell phones always charged up? Do you have an extra battery or charger in your car? Do you have a battery powered radio and plenty of batteries for it?

One of the most important things to have is a clear calm head. Being prepared using these 10 areas as a guideline will keep you calm. Being at peace will make things less stressful. Your children need to see you calm and collected, it will help keep them calm too.

Think about these questions and take care of as much of these things as you are able. Take baby steps and do what you can. The resulting peace is oh so worth it.

These questions are mind joggers to get you thinking about how to be better prepared for emergency situations. Other things may come to your mind that pertain to your particular lifestyle. Write them down and take care of them in a timely manner. You deserve peace of mind! You deserve to have your mind free to focus on the more important things in life!

BE PREPARED!
